The Lonely Leader

Abimelech was a guy who’s father (Gideon) was a great leader (read about it here). When Abimelech became the leader of a city called Shechem, he used the city’s money, “to hire some reckless troublemakers who agreed to follow him.” (Judges 9:4) This set Abimelech and the city of Shechem on the trajectory of disfunction and destruction. At the end of Abimelech’s life, Judges 9:55 says, “When Abimelech’s men saw that he was dead, they disbanded and returned to their homes.”

::4 Leadership questions to consider from Abimelech’s story::
1. Who are you leading?
2. How did you become their leader?
3. Is your vision compelling?
4. Is your vision built around you, or can it sustain without you in it?
